Textile Designer & Fiber Artist
Nichelle Monique Singley is a Columbus, OH based designer and artist. She has a degree in Fashion Design from Savannah College of Art & Design and works professionally as a knitwear designer.
Nichelle’s work as a fiber artist consists of woven pieces full of texture. She loves to toy around with the idea of juxtapositions throughout her work; hard vs. soft, chunky vs. fine and structural vs. delicate. Inspiration is often drawn from the materials themselves as she manipulates fibers in ways that create movement and modern drama.
The journey through wall hangings began in 2015 when Nichelle had accumulated a large amount of fibers she intended to use for knitting. Her yarn purchases outpaced her knitting habits and she revisited a form of fiber manipulation she used for a project a year prior in college - weaving. Years later, she’s still exploring techniques and fibers through the lens of wall hangings in her studio at home.
